jordan’s - Story
Before I came on Get on Track, I was looking for work. I wasn’t very active at all at the start of last year as I lost my Dad back in 2017 and I was still coming to terms with that and learning how to get over that. I found it hard to be motivated to look for work or do much activity while dealing with the stress of losing my Dad.
We’ve done loads of different activities on the programme and I’ve tried all kinds of new activities. We did fencing, squash, team building stuff, activities around leadership, and we even visited the Olympic Park for inspiration.
My confidence has always been a bit like a rollercoaster! One minute it’s good and one minute it’s gone downhill again. This programme has really helped me a lot as it’s pushed me to do new things. I wasn’t confident at all before, but my confidence levels have definitely grown. Earlier in the year I took the train to visit a friend in June in Liverpool on my own, something I certainly wouldn’t have done before if it wasn’t for the programme.
Talking about how we felt with the athletes was a real help, it’s been amazing to get to work with ex athletes. Seeing the journey Claire took with fencing and hearing her story has inspired me to push myself in my passion for catering. I really want to work as a chef and she’s inspired me to really push for that, so I’m trying out new healthy recipes regularly with my family at home!

I’m definitely more active than I was at the beginning of the year. Now I go out more, do more powerwalking, going for a jog. I’m a big football fan and play a bit with my brothers. I really enjoyed the whole programme, trying out new sports such as fencing and squash was brilliant, I didn’t think I’d get a chance to try things like that.
As a result of Get on Track my confidence has definitely gone up as has my self-esteem and it’s given me the opportunity to face new challenges.
Jordan attended the Get on Track for Wellbeing programme in Folkestone in partnership with Swale Leisure. Thanks to funding from Sport England, we are working with 700 young people in coastal communities all across England to help them become more active.
