Supporting multi sports camps in London
During the Easter holidays, Dallaglio RugbyWorks coaches and Dame Kelly Holmes Trust athletes worked together to deliver multi sports camps at Streatham & Croydon Rugby Football Clubs over four days.
Over the last two years we have been working collaboratively with Dallaglio Rugby Works, with Trust athlete mentors delivering weekly sport sessions alongside DRW coaches in a total of five schools across London. Working together on these Easter camps has been an extension of this partnership and assists young people to become more active and improve their wellbeing.
As well as trying out new sports across the sessions such as fencing and boxing, DWR coaches delivered a Level 1 qualification in Sports Leadership to all participants. This gave the young people an opportunity to learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication and organisational skills, whilst learning to lead basic physical activities and sport sessions.
Alongside this our Trust athlete mentors delivered food education workshops, talking to the young people about their lifestyle and how an athlete manages their diet as well as tips for eating healthily on a budget.
Alongside Claire, we also had Olympic judo player Ben Fletcher and British boxing champion Hannah Beharry representing the Trust and passing on their knowledge and experience to the young people involved.
